Rafting

So I just got home from spending the weekend with my parents, my uncle and his girlfriend, and my uncles friend/army buddy and his son. It was an awesome time. We drove to West Virginia yesterday and checked into the camp site. Later that day we went on a 3 to 4 hour white water rafting trip down the river – I am now hooked and want to go again, but on a more intense river with more rapids. No one fell out, but we all almost did when we were surfing (paddling straight into the rapid after you have gone over it) – the raft filled with water and we had nothing to hold onto, but it was awesome. Afterward we built a fire, had some bratwursts and hot dogs, had a beer and spent the night just hanging out. Then today we started driving home, stopped for breakfast with my uncle and his girlfriend, and then drove the rest of the way home.

The plan for the next time we go (If I am able to) is to try the Lower Gauley, which is one step up from what we did. It’s a mixture of Class 3, 4, and 5 rapids. After that we want to try the Upper Gauley, which is 20 Class V Rapids, 5 of which are World Class, and then a handful of Class III and IV rapids – someone will definitely fall out of the raft on those!

I really want to get a group together and go back down there sometime. Probably after the deployment since there is very little time, but it got me thinking about how many different things I want to try – Sky diving, bungee jumping, etc. I need to start my own personal bucket list. T

All in all I had a good time, and can’t wait to go again. Hopefully next time both Adam and I can go and have a good time. Once Lydia is old enough I’ll have to take her too!
